SNL: The Best of Molly Shannon

DVD - C-

Unfortunately I can't say the Best Molly Shannon DVD can't be missed. I found this DVD to be very disappointing. Most of the sketches chosen were not that good, in particular one featuring Phil Hartman as Frank Sinatra, and do not features Molly Shannon's best work. Also the running time of the best of portion of the DVD is only about 65 minutes. I'm not sure if there is less than the NBC version, which I didn't watch, or what. Again, it seems as though more material could be put on these DVD's.

Don't get me wrong, there is some good material on here. There is the NPR radio sketch with Alec Baldwin and his Schweaty Balls, and one of my favorite sketches with Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon having a blind date in an airport bar. Of course there are some of Shannon's recurring characters like 50 year old Sally O'Malley, Joyologist Helen Madden and two Mary Katherine Gallagher sketches.

This DVD has most of the same features as the Will Ferrell. There are two Conan O'Brien appearance, a cut dress rehearsal sketch, some outtakes, and another photo gallery. We don't get any audition footage though.

So overall I'm not sure I would recommend buying this one, unless you are a huge Molly Shannon fan or an SNL completist.

Now we just need best of's for Cheri Oteri (I've heard one is due in October), Chris Kattan, Ana Gasteyer and an update for Tim Meadows.
