10/18/03 Halle Berry with musical guest Britney Spears...Cold Opening - Maya Rudolph, Finesse Mitchell, Chris Parnell This was was pretty obvious. It wasn't bad, but not that good either. Grade - C Opening Monologue - Halle Berry, Lorne Michaels, Britney Spears, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey A lot of people don't like it when a monologue is interrupted, but I think it all depends on the host. In this case an interruption was welcome. Also for some reason I'm always glad when Lorne Michaels appears on the show, he has a kind of dry subtle delivery that I like. Him trying to get Halle and Britney to kiss was funny, although completely expected. "It doesn't even have to be on camera," was a pretty good line. Grade - B Commerical - Gaystrogen - Fred Armisen, Chris Parnell, Finesse Mitchell I really don't have an opinion on this, it wasn't all that funny, but I didn't think it was terrible. I was reminded of the Homocil commercial, which was much better. Grade - C- Don Zimmer's Sports Spectacular - Horatio Sanz, Jeff Richards, Will Forte, Darrell Hammond, Halle Berry This was about as simple as it gets. Each guest throws Zimmer to the ground and he apologizes for his behavior, however something about it was funny. Maybe it's just that they kept doing the same thing over and over. Halle Berry didn't really add anything to this and Will Forte's singing was completely unnecessary. Grade - B- Versace Halloween - Maya Rudolph, Halle Berry, Horatio Sanz This is one of my least favorite recurring sketches. It's just not funny to me. This one in particular had nothing even mildly amusing. I think Sanz is funny as Elton John, but there was nothing noteworthy here. Again Halle Berry brings nothing to this. Grade - F Commercial - Telelink - Jeff Richards, Maya Rudolph, Seth Meyer, Rachel Dratch Boring. It's a telephone service that's supposed to be simple but nothing about it is. So what? Grade - F Quick Ones - Amy Poehler, Halle Berry, Will Forte, Seth Meyer Ok, at this point I have lost any hope for the show, so I will try not to be unfairly harsh, but this was not funny. The concept maybe could have been funny, but the execution was all wrong. Grade - D The Japanese Restaurant - Halle Berry, Finesse Mitchell, Maya Rudolph, Chris Parnell, Amy Poehler, Kenan Thompson, Fred Armisen Is Finesse Mitchell going to do the same thing every week? He pulls a little bit from his weekend update commentary and turns it into a sketch? When he did stand-up was this all he did (it's my birthday up in here, up in here)? Grade - D Commercial - Sunday National Enquirer - Amy Poehler, Chris Parnell, Halle Berry It's not like anyone take the National Enquirer seriously anyway. What's the point? Grade - F Musical Performance - Britney No way were these live vocals. Maybe she was singing to a backing track and her mic was on like level 1. Grade - N/A Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey - Fred Armisen, Horatio Sanz and special guest George Wendt Nothing particularly stood out to me as far as the jokes went. Armisen's new character was okay, it was funnier thinking that Jimmy discovered him and thought he was hilarious. Maybe it's because I'm all the way out in Seattle, but I've never really been into the whole Chicago Bears thing they've done on SNL for so long. I can't really say how funny this part of it was, I guess it was okay. Grade - C The Greatest Hits of Klimaxx - Seth Meyer, Fred Armisen, Halle Berry, Maya Rudolph, Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Finesse Mitchell, Kenan Thompson ??????? I had to search my memory banks just to remember who Klimaxx was, and I couldn't come up with much more than I kind of remembered the name (I'm 30 so I'm not too young or too old to remember them). And Joey Lawrence? Seth's impression kind of reminded me of Rob Lowe doing Shaggy, he was using almost the same voice. Grade - F (I'm tired of being nice, there was nothing good about this) The Tom Brokaw Message - Chris Parnell, Halle Berry This sketch illustrates how little Halle Berry brought to this episode, I mean she has done absolutely nothing the whole night. She's like an underused featured player. Parnell does a good Tom Brokaw, but we could see the tape player not working gag coming a mile away. Grade - D Musical Performance - Britney Maybe these were live this time, not sure. She wasn't dancing so I guess they could have been. Grade - N/A Ashford & Simpson - Maya Rudolph, Kenan Thompson, Halle Berry, Finesse Mitchell At least Halle Berry put a little something extra into this one. I still didn't think it was funny. Grade - D The Speed Reader - Halle Berry, Will Forte Okay, here is my problem with Will Forte...he tries too hard to be weird. I just don't think he is funny. Yes, at this point I hate this episode, and yes I am biased against Will Forte, but this sketch was not funny. Grade - F Final analysis - This Episode sucked. |
