Movie D DVD C-

Unfortunately I can't find anything good to say about Corky Romano. I wasn't really expecting it to be that good, but I was still disappointed. I am a fan of Chris Kattan on Saturday Night Live so I was at least hoping for some funny scenes but there just wasn't any. Kattan performs with his usual exuberance but he just never seems to fit with the rest of the cast, or maybe it's that they don't fit with him. I know the whole point was that he didn't fit with his organized crime family, but the joke just doesn't work.

After watching this I was left wondering why people think that certain genre movies do not need a good script. I don't think this movie could have been more predictable, the ending was practically excrutiating to watch. Even though I knew what was coming I just kept wondering why it had to end on such a sappy note, with everything wrapped up so nice and neat. So I am thinking that just because this is a comedy starring a Saturday Night Live cast member means no effort whatsoever is put into telling a decent story. Decent story doesn't necessarily mean an intricate or complex plot, it just means doing something interesting that people want to watch.

The DVD is pretty light on features, but I gave it a notch higher because of the featurette. Instead of the usual EPK puff piece we get an actual behind the scenes segment. The segment covers the shooting of one scene in the movie. This is the kind of feature I wish was on more DVDs. This shows Kattan and the crew working the scene different ways and is just a good behind the scenes documentation. There are also a couple deleted scenes that are really just expanded scenes already in the movie.
