11-1-03 Host Alec Baldwin and musical guest Missy Elliott...Cold Opening - Bush Adresses the Nation - Darrell Hammond Bush addressing the nation, how many times do we have to see this? There really wasn't anything new to talk about. I'm getting so bored with this, I groan every time I see the presidential seal pop up before this starts. Hammond has had a couple weeks to work on his Bush impression, but it's still not that good. The body language is good, but the voice is just not really reminding me of Bush. I think he's a little too animated acutally and the chuckling reminds me more of Clinton. Grade - D Opening Monologue - Alec Baldwin, Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sanz, Mike Myers I didn't recognize Fallon and Sanz at first. This monologue was not all that good, especially since last week they had cast members "helping" the host. It was nice to see Mike Myers though, they haven't had anyone from that cast in a while. Grade - C Commerical - Huggies Thong A repeat already? This is okay, but I didn't care about seeing it again. Grade - N/A, I gave it a grade the first time it was on. The Plastic Surgeon - Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler I got a sinking feeling seeing that this was the first sketch of the night. The plastic surgeon, who is supposed to be professional, is actually obsessed with big breasts. Not all that interesting. Grade - D The Zinger vs. The Burn - Alec Baldwin, Seth Meyers, Chris Parnell, Maya Rudolph I have to again admire Seth Meyers enthusiasm, particularly considering the state of the show these days. There were a few funny lines in this one, especially when they raised the explicitness level. Grade - B- The Tony Bennett Show - Alec Baldwin, Horatio Sanz, Fred Armisen I know Tony Bennett had a little come back several years ago, but I'm not how well this works now. However, the Stayfree endorsement was funny. Sanz as usual perked things up a bit. Grade - B- Commercial - Gaystrogen Another repeat!?!? They couldn't come up with one new commercial? Maybe they were just trying to pad the show for time. Grade - N/A The Falconer - Will Forte, Alec Baldwin, Kenan Thompson, Fred Armisen No!! I hate The Falconer. Maybe I'm not being fair or open minded, but I just don't like this one. On a side note, they sure are making good use of their new featured players...Kenan Thompson may have just been one of the may extras in tonights episode. I wonder if these guys will be around next season? Grade - F Mr Williams and Roddick - Kenan Thompson, Andy Roddick Musical Performance - Missy Elliott Grade - N/A. I know I don't give grades on these, but I thought this was particularly bad. Weekend Update with Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon - Will Forte, Fred Armisen Tina actually got booed for her Gore at MacDonalds joke, then Jimmy gets a huge laugh with his Bush bit. She had to have felt bad about that. Will Forte's sex tape...I'm not sure how I felt about that. It was funny just in the extremeness of it. Him and Armisen together? I can't say I love having that image burned into my mind. Grade - C+ The Prince Charles Press Conference - Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen Pretty boring, just them getting in as many plays on words, to imply Prince Charles is gay, as they could. This is kind of high school level humor to me. Grade - D The Presentation - Alec Baldwin, Amy Poehler, Horatio Sanz, Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen This one had some potential, if they had played it a little more realistically. I thought the ending with Meyers hitting on Dratch was lame. Grade - D Musical Performance - Missy Elliott Grade - N/A The Return of Roy - Alec Baldwin, Jeff Richards, Amy Poehler I'm not into the Seigfried and Roy jokes. I don't think what happened was funny, and I didn't think this sketch was funny. Grade - F The Movie Producers - Seth Meyers, Fred Armisen, Alec Baldwin, Rachel Dratch I'm not sure where they were going with this and it did seem to end a little abrubtly. Dratch was kind of funny as the old man. It's weird how easy it is for her to look like a guy. Grade - C I had hopes this episode would be good, considering Baldwin is usually good. I think the show has hit a dry spell though. I guess it has to every few years, so it can have a big comeback. |
