And God Spoke, also known as The Making of... And God Spoke, was an independent film that orginally came out in 1993. I believe it played at the Toronto Film Festival and I'm not sure how much it played in theaters after that. It was released on video in 1994, which was when I last saw it. This year it has finally seen a DVD release. I was very much looking forward to this DVD release, as I remember this film being very funny.

It still held up pretty well for me nearly ten years later. The film is a mockumentary in a similar style to the films of Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap, Best in Show, Waiting for Guffman, etc.). It revolves around a producer/director team trying to get their movie, an adaptation of the bible, made. Most of the jokes on the movie industry still work, I think in most part because they do not try to go overboard skewering the same old movie cliches we've seen several times before. This movie is just a lot of fun without trying to make some pretentious point about the evils of Hollywood.

The DVD has no special features, but the movie itself makes a rental worthwhile. Look for some "before they were famous" brief appearances from Andy Dick and SNL's Chris Kattan.
