Possible Firefly resurrection...
Since I have been going on and on about saving Arrested Development, I feel in all fairness I should mention the possible resurrection of Firefly. Also I just finished watching the series on DVD and I thought it was pretty good. I would like to see more. Though Serenity, the feature film based on the series, was not what many would call successful at the box office, the DVD's for both the film and series have been selling very well.
Rumor has it that an independent production company is looking to buy the rights from Fox, and produce the show for another network. I am not sure if the show was shopped around while it was still being produced at Fox, but maybe there is some network that would be interested now that the DVD market is proven.
There is also some talk that the show might be produced for on demand viewing only or possible straight to DVD release.
Here is a link to sign up to be a "recruit." http://www.fireflyseason2.com/index.asp
I am not holding my breath for any of this to happen. It is completely unprecedented and I'm not sure what the future of "independent" television is. The registrar of the above website is a production house called Brilliant Screen Entertainment located in Avondale, Arizona. While they have a fairly impressive list of local projects they are not on the level of a network studio.
I'm not sure where they would get the financing to produce a show like Firefly, and I'm even more not sure whether all involved with Firefly would want to try something like that. Maybe we would get a completely new cast and Joss Whedonless Firefly?
The prospect of television shows bybassing network air, or having a short network run, and then going straight to DVD and pay per view is exciting though.
