Taylor Hicks - the next Vote For The Worst candidate???

There is a website out there called Vote For The Worst.com who tries to get people to vote for who they think is the worst contestant on American Idol. They have a very detailed explanation as to why they do this on their webpage. I look at their site about once a week, but this is my first mention of them here.

The first contestant they endorsed was Kevis Covais, and it could be one of the reasons he lasted as long as he did.

When Kevin got voted off they went for Kellie Pickler. I was kind of surprised because Kellie has a huge fan base and Simon was saying in every interview that Kellie would be in the top 3. Why would this site, who purpose is to mess with the American Idol system push one of the top contenders? I still haven't figured it out. A better choice would have been Ace.

Of course Kellie has slipped quickly out of top contender status and is in danger of being voted off. Whose the next candidate for the "worst" idol they want to keep around longer than he or she should be there? According to the message boards it's Taylor Hicks.

My heart sank a little when I read this. I don't understand what's happening. Yes, Taylor didn't have a great night last night, but it's one night. He's had a couple other performances that would not be considered great, but no out and out bad ones. He always sings well. Actually last night was the first time I noticed he was having trouble vocally.

Is it the dancing? Do they think he doesn't sing good? That kind of thing is subjective.

After Taylor's performance of Levon, the VFTW site said they wished they could promote him as the "worst" just to help someone who is truly talented win. I wonder if they still feel that way about him.

One of my first posts about Taylor talked about how he was an unusual candidate for American Idol. And it's still true. Realization has set in that Taylor can't go out and sing songs like A Change is Gonna Come like he did in his audition. He's been stuck with the TV ratings side of the game and forced into a lot of peculiar themes and song choices. I sometimes wonder what he thinks of the whole thing. Maybe VFTW thinks he's sold out a little (I don't think that by the way). Maybe they just think he hasn't lived up to his promise (I also don't think that).

Maybe he's had to compromise a little. I keep saying we'll see the Taylor from the auditions soon. And I think we will. I think he's done some excellent things on the show, and since the expectations are high for him, a performance like last night sends everyone into a panic. I'm really blaming the song more than anything else. Taylor is good, but he can't blow people away with just any song.

I guess if the people at Vote For The Worst choose him, should Kellie leave, it will bring more votes Taylor's way. I still think he's going to be there for the finale regardless.
