Randy Jackson predicting Taylor Hicks to win?

On Friday Randy Jackson appeared on the The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and was not at all specific on who he thought would win. The only interesting note on that subject is that the only three contestants to receive any applause were - Katharine McPhee (a small amount), Chris Daughtry (applause rises) and Taylor Hicks (the most applause).

On The View this morning Randy was a little more forthcoming. Randy said he thinks a Southern guy will win. I'm not sure whether his comment was meant to leave Elliott out or not. There seems to some debate over whether Virginia (where Elliott is from) is a southern state or not. At any rate, the ladies of the view starting saying Chris would win, and Randy pointed out that there is only one guy that has never been in the bottom 3 - Taylor Hicks.

I'm hoping Taylor is never in the bottom 3. Clay Aiken never was, and I would be willing to bet the Soul Patrol in more far reaching and dedicated than the former Claymates (go ahead and try to argue, there is no way to prove it).

For whatever reason American Idol never has, and probably never will, promote Taylor as "the winner." Taylor has built his fanbase from his own merit and I think he'll hang on to it. Simon may think Taylor will be unmarketable outside the world of AI, but I think Simon needs to pay closer attention to the industry.

Singer/songwriters are everywhere. And while Taylor may be more soulful than Jack Johnson or John Mayer, he certainly could fit on a playlist along with those guys. I think a little soul is what that kind of music needs, and Taylor fills the void perfectly.

Coundn't disagree with you more about Taylor. If he indeed does win this season I believe he will end up being the biggest embarrasment ever to AI in terms of not only cd sales, but lower ratings for AI next season as part of the fallout. I can assure you I'm not interested in buying any of his music( If I wanted to I could right now after all--he has two or three Cd's available for purchase)and there are many, many more that feel the same.

I like John Mayer. Listening to him right now! (:

As for the Taylor thing, yes he sings good and he has got a WHOLE LOTTA SOUL!

That said however...

To me I feel he doesn't have the whole package and everything it takes to be an Idol.

An Idol needs to be an image. A symbol. An embodiment of America's best performer. Not just singer, note, PERFORMER.

You know me. I have a grudge against Taylor's dancing. Taylor can't dance. Completely. I would like to point out, in Katherine's defense, that the judges thought she was pretty good and that she made all the others look like 'good amateurs'. It means, in other words, that Katherine might win this hands down.

Come tag if ur free.

Just to clarify on one of "anonymous'" points - Taylor has one CD available for purchase. It is an independent release, called Under The Radar containg 7 songs, so it is really more of a demo EP.

There is one retailer in the entire U.S. that has it available for purchase.

His first CD, called In Your Time, was recorded in 1997 and is currently not available.

kar liang - says "An Idol needs to be an image. A symbol. An embodiment of America's best performer. Not just singer, note, PERFORMER."

I think your point could apply to Katharine more than Taylor. Taylor is a performer. A lot of people like his dancing, which is why I was making the point about James Brown and Mick Jagger.

If they were doing their moves on AI, everyone would have thought they were pretty out there too. Some would have liked it, and some wouldn't, just like Taylor.

Funny. I'm just googling, and I find this blog. Wonder what all the Taylor-haters think now. (Probably they still hate, but such is the nature of haters.) All over the TV and magazines, hottest bachelor, one of the sexiest men in America, and a devoted fanbase who travel (as far as Asia) to see him. Yeah, Taylor's so not marketable. What an embarrassment! If the ratings for AI go down next season, it won't be Taylor's fault, not directly, anyway. I got what I needed from AI5 -- Taylor Hicks. Don't need to watch again. I bet the ratings will spike the nights he guests, though.
