American Idol says goodby to Ace Young, and puts Taylor Hicks in a tight spot...

Taylor Hicks "may or may not" have had the highest number of votes Tuesday night, but I'm leaning toward the side of "may."

The bottom 3 were Ace, Chris and Paris, exactly the 3 I thought. However, I didn't think Chris would be bottom 2.

The way it worked last night is Elliott, Kellie and Katharine were placed in one group and Chris, Ace and Paris in another on the stage. This left Taylor alone on the couch. This is where Ryan said he was safe and the "may or may not" have the highest number votes comment came in. Just before going to commericial Ryan tells Taylor that after the break he is going to have to go stand with whichever group he thinks is not the bottom 3.

Coming back from break Taylor looks quite uncomfortable with the whole situation and walks over to shake Chris' hand. Ryan starts to say "I'm sorry..." (the rest being that Taylor has made the wrong choice), but realizes Taylor is not done. Taylor starts to walk to the other group when Ryan announces the group with Katharine, Kellie and Elliott are safe. Taylor stands with them looking miserable as Katharine and Kellie excitedly jump all over him. I guess a little empathy for the bottom 3 and for Taylor's predicament didn't cross their minds. Thank god for Elliott who always exudes class.

Soon it's revealed that it's Chris and Ace in the bottom and then that Ace is going home. No surprise there. Once again we don't get to see the entire closing performance, so much for Ace's swan song. Who times these things?

Why am I recapping all of this? Because it reminded me of why I'm a fan of Taylor and not a fan of American Idol. I hated seeing Taylor (or anyone else if it had been) forced into an uncomfortable position he didn't even know was coming (I know, they've done it before, but if you've never watched the show before like me you don't know how manipulative it can be).

Taylor did the best he could with a bad situation. I'm sure he'll put the whole thing behind him and stick to his creedo of focusing on the music.

I was a litte freaked out when they started previewing next weeks theme and showed classical singer Andrea Bocelli. What are they going to have to do?!?! Ok, so then it turns out the theme is classic love songs, and they are just working with Andrea Bocelli. It seems like a pretty broad category, that includes about 90% of popular music, but of course they may have a very specific definition of classic.

Time for Taylor to bring out his big guns.

Personal rank of the top 6:

Taylor Hicks
Elliott Yamin
Paris Bennett
Chris Daughtry
Kellie Pickler
Katharine McPhee

Well, can't say that I agree with your post. Katherine most certainly does not deserve to be at the bottom of your list... but that's ur personal choice.

I'm putting my bet on Kellie going. I don't see how she can do Andrea Bocelli. She can hardly hit a high note without coming close to screeching.

Also, I think MAYBE Taylor will ace this one. I ALSO don't see how he can dance to classical love songs unless someone else is dancing with him... and that's impossible. Is it?

And in response to your James Blunt-Mick Jagger comment left behind at one of your posts, I have to say one thing: They are not American Idols. They don't need to bear the symbol of America. AN American Idol, however, DOES need to know how to have the overall package. Dancing skills being one of the criteria.

Actually I said James Brown, but that's ok.

I don't think there are any particular qualifications in being an American Idol. After the show, they are going to try to make their name in the music industry the same as anyone else.

Yes there will be some obligations to the show, but the winner will simply be whoever gets the most votes (or that's what it's supposed to be).
