American Idol - Goodbye to Bucky and Queen is a no show

First off I would like to say that whomever made the decision to put the group performance of the contestants in a tiny little box in the lower corner of the TV screen, should not be allowed to make any production decisions for a very long time.

What I heard sounded good, but I kept getting distracted by the other box that was showing a montage of clips of contestants that are no longer on the show. Couldn't they have saved that for some other time.

Highlights from the medley were Chris singing Under Pressure, which he maybe should have done for his performance. It souned pretty good. Bucky joined in at one point and the 2 of them actually sounded pretty good together. Other highlights were Elliott on You're My Best Friend and Taylor on We Are The Champions (which he was originally going to do for his performance, and maybe should have, but he was good anyway). The medley could have been an extra showcase for everyone, but since we couldn't see it, it will probably be forgotton.

Throughout the hour they had messages from family and friends of the contestants, which was nice.

I'm almost positive Queen was actually slated to perform, but for whatever reason they weren't there. To fill the time it must have been decided at the last minute for the bottom 3 contestants to do their songs from the night before again.

The contestants must have been completely unaware, because Elliott was caught off guard, and didn't seem to know what was going on at first. And I have to say for being unprepared Elliott did an awesome job with his song. I think he actually sounded better than he did the night before.

Ace followed with his lame We Will Rock You. and then Bucky with Fat Bottom Girls. Elliott was probably helped the most with the bonus performance, and Ace the least. So the show is trying to remind everyone how good Elliott is and how bad Ace is.

I was sad that Bucky left, because I like him better than Ace. I guess Bucky has been on the verge of leaving ever since his first performance (which at the time I thought would be last).

Update -- On Brian May.com, Brian May says Queen was never scheduled to appear on American Idol. He also has some interesting things to say about the way his conversation with Ace was potrayed. Check it out.
