Arrested Development...The Obsession

Is it the end???? Currently Fox has updated their Arrested Development homepage to say, "All-New Episodes Coming Soon!" Whether this will prove to be true or not remains to be seen, after all, for half of Monday the Fox.com homepage advertised 2 new episodes that night. Instead, viewers who expectantly tuned in got a re-run of House.

Obviously this is not a good sign. All season Arrested Develoment has aired sporadically, and most people think it's already been cancelled. If you look at AskFox.com you will see that the remainder of the third season of Arrested Development is currently listed as mid-season back up replacement -- in layman's terms that means one of Fox's new shows will probably have to fail for the rest of the AD season to air. Now you have to ask yourself if it's morally acceptable to wish for the loss of other's people's jobs just so you can see a few AD episodes?

Whether the 4 episodes air or not is beside the point - they will eventually be on DVD anyway. The real question is: Does Arrested Development have a future?

There are rumors about ABC and Showtime taking it over, there is even the smallest of small chances Fox will keep it, but will there be anything left to save when all is said and done?

Chances are good the actor's are already exploring other options. They can't just sit around, passing up other offers, and have know idea whether AD will continue or not. Jason Bateman and Will Arnett seem to be jumping into feature film careers, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have other TV offers already on the table. I'm sure the rest of the cast will not have much trouble finding other projects.

But maybe the actors love the show as much as its fans do, maybe they want to stick around and see what happens. Despite the low ratings, the fans have been loyal and vocal, and they're not all nobody internet bloggers like me. E! Online's Kristin Veitch has been campaigning for the show for months - she always has new and hopeful info about the show.

We may not know the fate of Arrested Development until May, when Fox has to finally decide, so until then the fans will continue their campaigning, speculation, and hope beyond hope the show continues.
