SNL Premiere... where are the women???
The season premiere of SNL last weekend disappointed me. Why aren't they changing things up? Can they not find any funny female performers?????? I like Amy Poehler and Rachel Dratch, but they are being worn thin. I'm not a big fan of Maya Rudolph, but she's ok sometimes, however she doesn't look like she'll be around much longer. I don't know when Tina Fey will be back, but she wasn't in that many sketches anyway. They're going to get by with 2 women and 11 guys?
The cast hasn't changed much. Rob Riggle is out and Andy Samberg and Bill Hader as featured players. Jason Sudeikis also returns as a featured player (he was in a couple shows last season). I thought Bill Hader showed some promise. His impressions were good, but not completely original (luckily he was cut off before an inevitible Christopher Walken impression). I found Andy Samberg to be a bit annoying and Jason Sudeikis didn't leave much of an impression.
The show itself was pretty lackluster. It's like they're trying too hard, and not coming across as funny at all. Enough with the political slant, we know you don't like President Bush! I particularly didn't think the Girls Gone Wild Hurricane Katrina was funny. Some might admire the audacity, but I thought it was in poor taste and not funny otherwise.
I hope the show gets better, but with Lorne Michaels' reluctance to change the cast I don't have much hope.
Next weeks host is John Heder with musical guest Ashlee Simpson (why are they giving her another chance? I guess it's good for ratings.).
