Hi, I am coming out of my self imposed blogging retirement to post - WHY I WILL NOT BUY THE NEW RELEASE OF THE STAR WARS TRILOGY ON DVD.
I don't need to provide a list of reasons my first reason says it all.
1. The original movies are not available. Only the so called special editions are being released. And these are not even the 1997 special editions, these are "even more special" editions.
I'm not going to go into specifics on what the changes are and I do or don't like. It doesn't really matter, they are changed and that in itself I don't like.
George Lucas doesn't care about the original trilogy, and frankly I no longer care about anything he has done or wil do since 1983.
A lot of people say they're his movies and he can do whatever he wants to them. Even he says that. But I would like to point out that he only directed 1 the 3 original movies. So he is really blurring the line between who a movie "belongs" to. Should Quentin Tarantino be able to go in and make changes to Natural Born Killers? After all he did create the characters and the story. Should Harvey Weinstein be able to the Lord of the Rings trilogy? He is one of the producers.
What about all the crew, and now actors, who have been unceremoniously cut out of these films? Apparently Lucas was always unsatisfied with their work. I wonder how they feel about that.
Lucas says he is now able to release the films he always wanted to make. He can watch them all he wants, but I don't want to have anything to do with it.
