Last Two DVD Rentals...

28 Days Later

28 Days Later at first reminded me of The Omega Man. For those who don't know The Omega Man star Charleton Heston as the lone survivor of a massive plague. So 28 Days Later reminded me of that for about the first third of the movie or so. Then it turned into Dawn of the Dead. Okay it wasn't exactly Dawn of the Dead, but you can't tell that grocery store scene wasn't a direct homage. It was like Dawn of the Dead until about the half way point, then it didn't really remind of anything in particular. Without giving anything away, I'll just say that I thought the twist at the end was clever and I didn't see it coming. As for the movie overall, I thought it was okay, but I didn't love it. The alternate ending is a waste, I can't believe it was re-released to theaters for it. The DVD also has a second alternate ending that goes with the theatrical althernate ending, and it has a drastically different alternate ending. This one is not really an alternate ending, because it actually starts about half way through the movie, about where it stopped being like Dawn of the Dead, and it was never actually shot. Storyboards are shown and dialogue is read over those. It's interesting to see how different the movie would have been.

Wrong Turn

Wrong Turn received terrible reviews and totally bombed at the box office. I'm not sure why this was the case. I'm not saying that because I thought it was really good, just that I didn't think it was that bad. It kept me entertained and there were a couple of parts where I jumped. Wrong Turn is not any worse than other movies of its type, so I'm not sure why it was so reviled.
